A key to facial rejuvenation is treatment of facial wrinkles and volume deficiencies created by the aging process. Dermal fillers are the second most common minimally invasive aesthetic procedure performed in the United States. There is a long-term dermal filler option of bovine collagen gel suspended polymethylmethacrylate, known as Bellafill (ART).
How Bellafill® Works to Reduce Wrinkles
Bellafill® is a dual-acting wrinkle filler. The secret is in its patented microsphere enhanced collagen. First, the collagen in Bellafill® visibly corrects the wrinkles then the microspheres provide the support your skin needs for long-lasting, natural feeling wrinkle correction. The long-term volume enhancement is between 80-100% of the volume injected. The bovine collagen is absorbed within the first 6-8 weeks and then your bodies own fibroblasts are stimulated to make your own collagen and this collage is permanent.
To insure you are not allergic to the collagen or anesthetic in Bellafill®, some patients undergo a skin test an prior to the initial treatment or approximately four (4) weeks ahead of time. However, Dr Troell has completed a study of nearly 3000 patients and determined that if patients deny an allergic reaction to lidocaine and red meat, then no skin injection is necessary.
Is Bellafill® Safe?
Bellafill® has been proven to be safe and effective for correction of nasolabial folds through 5 years in the longest and largest prospective dermal filler study ever compiled. A retrospective review from 2009 to 2013 and a prospective evaluation of patients from 2013 to 2016 in ART patients was undertaken.
The total number of patients treated from 2009 through 2015 was 1,513. A total of 2,875 ART syringes were injected. There were no injector observed allergic reactions to any ART aesthetic treatment.
ART is a valuable component of the comprehensive facial rejuvenation protocol. When patients confirm a lack of allergic response to lidocaine and red meat, ART can be injected safely without performing a skin test. If you would like to read a 28-page study, including results shown in a 38 yo woman requesting facial volume replacement using Bellafill (6 syringes) to tear trough, nasojugal groove, & submalar areas, please contact our offices in Las Vegas and ask for the “Dermatologic Surgery” study conducted by Dr. Troell.
