Twenty consecutive silicone breast augmentation patients with Fitzpatrick skin types I through V, ranging in age from 20 to 46 years, were treated with a CO2 laser device (DEKA & Equinox)
This is a presentation by Robert J. Troell, M.D., M.A.C.S. on Fri, 2/10/2017 at the 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery which took place in San Diego, Ca.
Breast augmentation surgery is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States. There have been multiple reported surgical techniques that attempt to optimize aesthetic outcomes, while others lower the complication risk. The location of incisions for silicone breast implants are designed to be hidden as much as possible with the inframammary, peri-areolar, and trans-axillary sites. The goal of this study was to determine if resurfacing the surgical incision during the early healing process could further camouflage its appearance.
Learning Objectives:
To understand the benefits of early laser skin resurfacing in surgical wound healing instead of waiting the classic one year from the time of the original incision.
