Ear Reshaping (Otoplasty) – BEAUTY BY DESIGN, Las Vegas
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Prospective Patient,
Thank you very much for your inquiry regarding cosmetic ear reshaping surgery, formally known as an otoplasty. I
have 16 years of experience performing otoplasty surgery. I completed a residency and fellowship at Stanford
University Medical Center and remained as a clinical professor for seven years. I am practicing in Las Vegas,
Nevada and Laguna Beach, California, known as the Center of Excellence for Facial Plastic &
Reconstructive Surgery.
During your initial free consultation, we will discuss your concerns and complete head & neck
physical examination including the external ear or pinna. There are a variety of surgical techniques available
depending on your ears anatomical appearance.
In some patients, the top of the ear (superior helix) droops, known as a lop ear deformity, some patients
do not have a complete internal fold of the external ear (anti-helix), some patients the ear excessively
protrudes from the head, some the ear size is too large than the optimal aesthetic appearance, ear lobes too
large or thin, and finally tears in the earlobe from wearing earrings. All of these anatomical variances
can be treated, most of them under local anesthesia, to create a more natural shape, size and
position of the external ear or pinna.
Nearly all the cosmetic external ear procedures can be performed under local anesthesia, some supplemented
with oral sedation. We can additionally perform “twilight” or intravenous sedation or even general
anesthesia, although rarely required.
The most significant ear cosmetic problem is lack of an external ear, called microtia. This congenital
problem takes three or four staged procedures to yield a satisfactory outcome using ones own rib.
I have before and after otoplasty patient photographs at www.drtroell.com and estrellaaesthetics.com
for you to review.
My facial plastic & reconstructive surgery practice has patients available to discuss with you the various
stages of recovery.
These cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance medical coverage. I look forward to meeting you in
my office.
Sincerely & Respectfully,
Robert J Troell,MD, FACS
