Thank you very much for inquiring about chin implant and cheek implant/cheek augmentation cosmetic surgery.
The cheek or mid-facial area can be augmented or enhanced by using a dermal filler (Perlane, Juvaderm and Artefill), fat transfer/fat grafting, silastic implants, on-lay cranial bone grafting or by cutting the cheek or zygomatic bone and pushing it forward and outward (osteotomy). This latter procedure was developed by my partner in Palo Alto, California.
The chin can be augmented by placing a silastic chin implant or by sliding the anterior part of the lower jaw forward, called a sliding genioplasty. A prominent chin can be reduced by taking down excess bone ot recontouring the lower jaw. The facial implant of choice is manufactured by Implantech, providing the most variety of all the FDA approved companies. I will review the benefits and limitations as well as surgical techniques of each of these methods.
I have published over ten peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and ten book chapters regarding maxillofacial surgery as well as facial plastic surgery. I completed a residency and fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center and remained as a clinical professor for seven years. I am medical director of the Center of Excellence in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. I have multiple board certifications including the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in Facial Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
With facial fat grafting, fat is harvested from the body, usually the abdomen or flanks. The fat is processed using either the PureGraft lipodialysis or LipoKit. The fat is placed in all areas of the face, especially the upper and lower lips, under the eyes (tear trough), under the cheek prominence (submalar area), and along the folds adjacent to the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds, mesolabial folds).
I have given eighteen training courses for surgeons, both at Stanford University Medical Center and in private practice, regarding maxillofacial surgery and facial fat transfer. I am a national trainer for SlimLipo, Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction (Body-Jet) and Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (VASER).
